Electric bikes, delivered laptop among items stolen in Galesburg IL

GALESBURG — At 11:48 a.m. Sunday, a woman in the 200 block of West Tompkins Street reported that a man had taken $750 in cash from her purse. She named a suspect who was visiting her roommate and that she was also planning on buying a laptop from. She stated he told her he didn’t have the laptop with him, and at some point she fell asleep. When she awoke, her purse had been dumped out. She reported that $750 and her debit cards were missing. 

• At 11:40 a.m. Sunday, a burglary from a pickup truck was reported in the 1200 block of Monmouth Boulevard. The victim showed police security footage showing a male subject at 10:31 a.m. entering the victim’s vehicle. A watch and a pack of cigarettes were taken from the vehicle. 

• At 6:48 p.m. Saturday, an electric bicycle was reported stolen from outside a laundromat. The victim told police he was doing laundry at Burke Cleaners, 1421 N. Henderson St., and when he came outside his white and green Hiland Rockshark electric bicycle was gone. The bicycle is valued at $750. 

• At 5:16 p.m. Saturday, a Galesburg man reported that a woman who had stayed overnight with him and apparently had stolen his debit card from his wallet. He advised that the card had since been used at a local grocery store for $46. 

• At 3:29 p.m. Saturday, two thefts were reported from a yard in the 900 block of Lombard Street. The victim told police her bicycle had been taken four weeks prior, and that an antique school bell valued at $75 had been stolen two nights prior to the report. 

• At 12:27 p.m. Saturday, a worker told police that a red, St. Louis Cardinals lunch box was stolen while he worked on a property in the 700 block of Avenue B.

• At 9:45 a.m. Saturday, a bicycle was reported stolen from an apartment building in the 1100 block of Hawkinson Avenue. The property owner told police that the building had been broken into, and officers observed fresh damage to a door as well as damage to a shed door. It was also learned a purple mountain bike that had been chained to a carport had been stolen. 

• At 8:38 p.m. Friday, the parent of a 7-year-old child told police that their child had been playing on the playground at Lombard School at about 7 p.m. when a “group of teenagers” had taken the child’s bike, put it in the trunk of a vehicle, and drove away. 

• At 6:36 a.m. Friday, change and pills were reportedly stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 000 block of Chestnut Street the night prior.

• At 10:52 a.m. Friday, it was reported that a package containing a laptop had been stolen from outside an apartment in the 1400 block of North West Street. The victim advised she was at work when she received an email saying her package had been delivered, but upon arrival home only an empty box could be found nearby. The Dell laptop is valued at $789. 

• At 2:43 a.m. Friday, an electric bike was reported stolen from a garage in the 300 block of South Farnham Street. The white, Jupiter bike is valued at $1,795. 

• At 7:27 p.m. Wednesday, a propane tank and a hedge trimmer, at a total value of $200, was reported stolen from a garage in the 1000 block of Willard Street at some point since 11 p.m. Tuesday night.
